Who can apply

Students of Chinese heritage in grades 9 through 12

Worth knowing

Unusually open: grades 9 through 12 can apply, not just graduating students, so a Grade 10 student can win and apply again later. Categories have included academics, arts, athletics, community service, defence of the environment, dignity of life, excellence, innovation, innovation in technology, leadership, overcoming adversity, family medicine, and journalism and communication. You may apply to as many categories as you like but can win only one, and each category needs its own application and its own reference letters, written for that category rather than reused. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Chinese heritage attending high school in Canada; students on a study permit are not eligible. Heritage is self-certified, with no documentation required. Past winners cannot reapply, unsuccessful applicants can. Winners are notified by August 31. The 29th annual awards are the current cycle; the Foundation does not post the deadline on its home page, so check the application portal or email info@jeanlumbfoundation.ca.
