Worth knowing

The society does not publish a deadline or an application form on its site, so contact info@nikkeiculturalsociety.com for the date and the form. Its two pages also disagree on who can apply: the awards page says any southern Alberta high school graduate, while the society's about page describes it as being for students interested in Japanese language or culture. Ask which applies before you spend time on it.

About this scholarship

A $500 scholarship awarded annually by the Nikkei Cultural Society, which is based in Lethbridge and supports Japanese Canadian culture in southern Alberta. The awards page states it is open to any student graduating from a high school in southern Alberta who will be continuing their studies at a college or university in the fall. The society also runs awards for University of Lethbridge Japanese language students and a professional development award, neither of which is open to high school students.
