Who can apply
Worth knowing
Wider than it first looks: you do not need to have cystic fibrosis yourself. Siblings, children, spouses and caregivers of a person diagnosed with CF are all eligible, which makes this reachable for a much larger group than most disease-specific awards. Anticipating enrolment as a first-year student in the fall counts, so graduating Grade 12 students qualify. You must be a legal resident of Canada or the US and not on academic probation. Using a Vertex drug is explicitly NOT a factor. The award is paid in Canadian dollars for Canadian residents. The 2026 window ran January 13 to February 24 at 3:00 p.m. CT, with recommendations due February 27 and funds disbursed in August, so this is another early-in-Grade-12 deadline. Administered by Scholarship America. Verified against the Vertex Foundation scholarship FAQ on 2026-09-08.
